I haven’t written much lately ’cause to be honest there hasn’t been much happening of late. The town is very quiet and the recent bad weather hasn’t done much to help things. In fact, things are so quiet that two taxis have disappeared and whether they will return is to be seen. Word on the rank is also that a few of our town centre pubs are struggling and it doesn’t look like they will survive for much longer!! Mind you, having 13 pubs in a walking distance of each other might make for a good pub crawl but it also makes it very hard to make a profit when things go quiet like they are now. Quiet?, did I say quiet?? They could have filmed the ‘Survivors’ series on the streets here some nights and it wouldn’t have looked out of place!!!
Saturdays now seem the only busy night but then even a recession will not stop the faithful from getting drunk, clubbing and fighting. What a sad impression of Britain!
I suppose if you are on benefits a recession makes no difference to your spending. Seems the choice between paying bills and going out to the night club is not a hard one for some!
Of our two surviving night clubs … even they don’t open all the time like they used to as there is just not enough to go around. Last week one club was closed by midnight as it only had 5 paying customers and they left as it was so bad. Not much profit when you consider door staff (2), bar staff (2), cloakroom and tickets (1), heating, lighting and music, business rates and rent. Not a lot left for an early retirement!!
Still, never mind, I’ll soldier on as I don’t have any other choices at present. I got myself an MP3 type player so I can watch movies to kill the boredom. Mind you there are only so many hours you can sit and watch movies!!
And now comes the snow!!
We didn’t get much but we did get sleet which made the roads slushy and then froze which made for some fun driving on the back roads. Even though the temperature was down at -3 degrees, the die hards were still out in tee-shirts …. no street cred in a coat!! Even saw one in shorts and flip-flops. What are they like?? Then they get in the taxi and ask for the heater to be turned up as they are freezing … Duh!! Some even sit on ‘the wailing wall’ eating pizza or kebab in the freezing sleet wearing only backless tops and the shortest of skirts then complain of the cold.
I must be getting old as I’ve just realised I should be enjoying the long legged girls and NOT thinking of their health!!
One girl last night, quite a looker, flat on her back on the wet grass, oblivious to the world and incapable of movement, wearing less than you would to go to bed in the tropics.
She was there for a good hour before the police saw her and had her taken away by ambulance before she froze to death. She was all of 20 years old, on her own and totally out of it! Should this be allowed to have offspring?? (I suppose she was lucky that she didn’t start last night without knowing herself) Did I feel sorry?? Did I hell as like ….. face up to your own actions. If you want to get drunk then sort yourself out!
