An Address Helps

Roman imageSo there I am, sitting on the rank, when there is a knock on the window.

“Are you free?”

(thinks) No. I am on the rank, my For Hire is lit and I have no passengers … I’m very busy!

“Yes, I’m free” … and in get two women who sit in the back talking and talking.

(thinks) No, I won’t ask.

Talk, talk, chatter, chatter, talk, talk until eventually one says “Is there a problem Driver?”

“Just a small one” and I tap my GPS.

“What’s up?”

(tap, tap, tap) “This new technology is playing up. The crystal ball function on my GPS is not working” (tap, tap)

“Does that mean we can’t get home?”

(tap, tap) “No, it’s OK to go but I will have to revert to the old fashioned way”

“Oh, whats that?”

“You tell me where you want to go to and I’ll just use my local knowledge to get us there.”

“Oh, OK, we want to go home”

(tap, tap, tap) “No!  Still not working. Let’s try another method slowly … WHERE …. DO …. YOU …. WANT … TO … GO … AND …DON’T … SAY … HOME!”

(Giggle, giggle, giggle) “Haven’t we said where we’re going?”

Eventually they give me an address …. Why me Lord? … Have I offended you?

This is followed later by another passenger with …

“I need to go to my friends house but I don’t know the address”

“Have you any idea at all where it is?”

“If you just drive out of town I will probably recognise it. It’s a big house painted blue near the main road.”

“Which direction and which main road?”

“I’m not sure … just drive out of town.”

“In which direction as this town has been modernised lately and has more than one ‘out of town’ and direction?”

“Are you being funny?”

“Me? No! Seriously. In 425AD, the Romans designed another ‘out of town’ area and it has been growing ever since.”

“Well, you can pi** off with that attitude. You’re no help. I’ll get another taxi”

“Good. And don’t forget to tell him it’s not the Roman Quarter you want but one of our new ‘out of town’ blue houses. Good luck with that!”

Don’t understand why he slammed the door!
