Saw this and immediately thought of our nightlife!
So our town center has been revamped with £4million spent and it looks reasonable enough but putting a modern style town center and ‘space age’ bandstand come bus shelter into a basically Victorian setting does not seem to fit in my opinion. They (the council) have moved our taxi rank and got rid of (at last) the old shelter that was used as a toilet every night by our lovely night life but they only made the rank to accommodate 6 cabs when every Friday and Saturday night there can be up to 25 working … no, they didn’t ask but even if they did it would make little difference as ‘they’ know better than us mortals.
Picked up a very drunken and strange fare last night to go to a well known military base. All the way there he was talking garbage to his mates who were not there as he got in by himself. He also had me stop twice for things only he could see … don’t know what he was on. Anyways, when we got to camp it turned out he had no money so I asked the gate guard to intervene. They are very good and help us out a lot. He got abusive to the guard and insisted he was a civvy and not military so had no ID card so of course he was not going to be allowed onto camp. Eventually the guard commander arrived, listened to his story, and then told him to leave the premises or the police would be involved. He then went to the other half of the gate and produced an ID card to another sentry who just handed it over to the guard commander. Needless to say, this morning I had a phone call from the RSM to go and collect my money which was now doubled as I was making two trips and there he was, waiting for me with twice the money in hand and an apology. They might be good at fighting the Taliban but they are absolute shit at trying to get away without paying at their own front gate!
